“God likes glitter,” I told my friend. She looked at me circumspectly and said, “how do you figure?”
“Well,” I said, “God made snow. And snow glitters. So does the ocean when the sun shines on it. So do fireflies. And stars!”
She knows this is part of being my best friend, these bursts of inspiration.
Truth is, I like glitter and I look for it everywhere.
We often say, “They just have that inner sparkle.” Especially after a couple has announced their engagement. Or a job promotion. Or graduation.
Most of the time, we don’t feel so sparkly.
And I laugh right now, because I can just see some tough dude reading my blog and gruffly saying, “I ain’t your sparkly.”
Yet we are. Sparkly that is. We are each born with gifts and unique qualities. We shine with potential. Just as a pile of glitter shines from each individual part – so do we shine in all the ways that we can make the world a better place.
How do you find your sparkle when you don’t see yourself as sparkly?
This is something we will talk about from time to time.
For today, perhaps you feel bored with life. Or discouraged. Get a special notebook, one that you dedicate to your hopes, dreams, and plans. And in that notebook, make a list of all of your sparkly qualities. If you need help, ask a friend or family member.
Speak life to your inner spirit, this God made soul of yours. Sometimes it is hard for us to see the sparkle in life if we don’t first see it in ourselves.
Then take that list and make another list of things you can do to bless someone else with your sparkle. For some, it could be as simple as smiling at people you see today. For others, it may be changing a tire for a stranger. It could also be starting that project you have been procrastinating.
And why? Because we were made to shine.
